چکیده
Transient splenial lesion (TSL) of the corpus callosum is associated with various disorders, including encephalitis, seizure and metabolic disturbances (1). We herein report a patient showing TSL after switching antiepileptic medications. A 46-year-old woman with epilepsy had been taking carbamazepine for decades. Asymptomatic hyponatremia (125 mEq/L) was detected, and carbamazepine was switched to zonisamide. Three days later, she complained anorexia, fatigue and polyuria, although the hyponatremia was resolved (141 mEq/L). Antidiuretic hormone (ADH) was undetectable

Transient lesion in the splenium of the corpus callosum due to carbamazepine.
Keeping in mind that lesions located in the splenium of the corpus callosum can sometimes be temporary may help us avoid invasive diagnostic and therapeutic methods. Transient lesion in the splenium of the corpus related to using or withdrawal of antiepileptic drugs are rarely encountered. In this article, we present a non-epileptic patient found to have a centrally located isolated lesion in t...
متن کاملTransient splenial lesion of the corpus callosum after acute withdrawal of antiepileptic drug: a case report.
Transient lesions at the splenium of the corpus callosum (SCC) have been reported after withdrawal of specific antiepileptic drugs (AED), though the pathophysiology of the lesions remains unclear. We examined and treated a schizophrenic patient who developed a transient SCC lesion after withdrawal of the AED, carbamazepine. Interestingly, the SCC lesion was accompanied by the onset of diabetes ...

BACKGROUND Transient splenial lesions of the corpus callosum are rare radiological findings first described in association with epilepsy, antiepileptic drugs and viral encephalitis. However, subsequently more cases were described associated with diverse clinical conditions. CASE REPORT We describe a 13-year-old girl suffering from migraine with aura presenting with headache, right-sided hemip...

A 14-year-old girl presented with encephalopathy, delirium and ophthalmoplegia following a 3day history of high-grade fever. Brain MRI on day 6 of illness showed diffusion restricted ovoid lesion in the splenium of corpus callosum. Dengue virus encephalitis was diagnosed with positive PCR for dengue virus type-2 in both serum and cerebrospinal fluid. She made a complete recovery from day 10 of ...
